Engineer, Member of Product Staff (Open Role)

Product Staff
Paris / New York / Remote

About the team

Adaptive is helping companies build singular generative AI experiences by democratizing the use of reinforcement learning. We are building the foundational technologies, tools, and products required for models to learn directly from users' interactions and for models to self-critique and self-improve from simple written guidelines. Our tightly-knit team was previously involved in the creation of state-of-the-art open-access large language models such as Falcon-180B. We have closed a $20M seed with Index & ICONIQ, and are looking forward to shipping a first version of our platform, Adaptive Engine, in early 2024.

Our Product Staff is responsible for packaging the technology we build and turning it into an exceptional product that directly answers pain points companies encounter in their generative AI deployments. We strive to build a high-quality, intuitive, and robust experience for our customers across our products.

About the role

This is an open-role, describing a generic engineering position in our Product Staff. If any of the below seems like a fit, please apply!

As a Member of Product Staff, you will help package our technology and turn it into an exceptional product. Our products help companies build more singular generative AI experience, by enabling deeper personalization with reinforcement learning. Importantly, the technology in our products has to be transparent, and to directly answer pain points companies face—not add another layer of inextricable complexity.

Some examples of tasks members of our Product Staff pursue on a daily basis:

  • Package and containerize model tuning and inference, for deployment in diverse customer-owned environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, on-premises)
  • Develop middleware between our scientific libraries, database and product front-end through APIs and servers, for example to list models, launch tuning jobs, display past requests and more.
  • Write integrations with billing, email, and other third-party-providers;
  • Build the production Docker service shipped in customer environments, ensuring performance, reliability and security at scale;
  • Implement monitoring tools and optimize the performance of our product.

We are looking for self-driven, intense individuals, who value technical excellency, client-focus, and growth. Typical technologies include Rust, TypeScript, React, and Docker.

Your responsibilities

  • Iterate, and implement the user experience of our products, from initial design to backend and frontend implementation;
  • Develop high-quality software, with elevated standards of performance, robustness and security;
  • Construct systematic processes for product development, helping remove unknown in our strategy;
  • Contribute to our product roadmap, by coordinating between the needs of the Commercial Staff and latest developments from our scientists;
  • Report clearly on your work to a distributed collaborative team, with a bias for asynchronous written communication.

Your (ideal) background

The background below is only suggestive of a few pointers we believe could be relevant; we welcome applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds, do not hesitate to get in touch if you think you could be a great fit even if the below doesn't fully describe you.

  • Demonstrated experience in product development, as a backend, frontend, product manager, or other similar role;
  • Strong software engineering skills, with a focus on robustness and performance;
  • A track record of shipping ambitious technical products under tight deadlines;
  • A deep concern for user experience;
  • Passionate about the future of generative AI, and eager to build foundational technology to help machines deliver more singular experiences.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical (health, dental, and vision) insurance;
  • 401(k) plan with 4% matching (or equivalent);
  • Unlimited PTO — we strongly encourage at least 5 weeks each year;
  • Mental health, wellness, and personal development stipends;
  • Visa sponsorship if you wish to relocate to New York or Paris.
