Senior Product Designer

Product Staff
Paris / New York / Remote

About the team

Adaptive is helping companies build singular generative AI experiences by democratising the use of reinforcement learning. We are building the foundational technologies, tools, and products, required for models to learn directly from users' interactions and for models to self-critique and self-improve from simple written guidelines. Our tightly-knit team was previously involved in the creation of state-of-the-art open-access large language models such as Falcon-180B. We have closed a $20M seed with IndexICONIQ, and are looking forward to shipping a first version of our platform, Adaptive Engine, in early 2024.

Our Product Staff is responsible for packaging the technology we build and turning it into an exceptional product that directly answers pain points companies encounter in their generative AI deployments. We strive to build a high-quality, intuitive, and robust experience for our customers across our products.

About the role

As a Senior Product Designer in our Product Staff, you will design the user experience, dashboards, and management tools powering Adaptive Engine and our other upcoming products. These interfaces are the main way through which our clients interact with our products; we place tremendous importance on their quality, with particular emphasis on clarity, honesty, and robustness.

You will own our design system, and be responsible for designing the user experience of new features jointly with our frontend engineer and full-stack engineer. Challenges you may face are likely to arise from the visual display of complex quantitative information (e.g., large-scale A/B tests) in a honest, clean, and efficient manner. We are looking for self-driven, intense individuals, interested in contributing to a highly-technical product with challenges regarding accessibility and clarity. As this is an early role, you can expect to be able to directly shape our product team as we grow.

This role is ideally in-person at our Paris or New York office, but we are also open to fully remote work.

Your responsibilities

  • Own the user experience of our products, from creative vision to shipping new features, collaborating closely with other members of the Product Staff to iterate on our products;
  • Ensure our products remain clear, honest, and efficient as we extend the features supported by our platform;
  • Contribute to the roadmap for our products, and help shape our Product Staff as Adaptive grows;
  • Prototype concepts and design new features, while ensuring high-standards and consistency for future extensions;
  • Report clearly on your work to a distributed collaborative team, with a bias for asynchronous written communication.

Your (ideal) background

The background below is only suggestive of a few pointers we believe could be relevant; we welcome applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds, do not hesitate to get in touch if you think you could be a great fit even if the below doesn't fully describe you.

  • 3-6 years experience of product design, with a significant focus on user experience;
  • Hands-on experience with projects centred around complex data visualisation, with challenges in clarity, honesty, and responsiveness;
  • Experience at fast-growing early-stage startups;
  • Frontend and prototyping skill, with a deep concern for technical user experience (e.g., snapiness);
  • Passionate about the future of generative AI, and eager to build foundational technology to help machines deliver more singular experiences.

  • Comprehensive medical (health, dental, and vision) insurance;
  • 401(k) plan with 4% matching (or equivalent);
  • Unlimited PTO — we strongly encourage at least 5 weeks each year;
  • Mental health, wellness, and personal development stipends;
  • Visa sponsorship if you wish to relocate to New York or Paris.
