About the team

Adaptive ML is helping companies build singular generative AI experiences by democratizing the use of reinforcement learning. We are building the foundational technologies, tools, and products required for models to learn directly from users' interactions and for models to self-critique and self-improve from simple written guidelines. Our tightly-knit team was previously involved in the creation of state-of-the-art open-access large language models such as Falcon-180B. We have closed a $20M seed with Index & ICONIQ, and are looking forward to shipping a first version of our platform, Adaptive Engine, in early 2024.

Our Commercial Staff is responsible for swiftly bringing the technology and product we build to our diverse customers and to the community. We strive to answer direct pain points companies encounter in their generative AI deployment, and our Commercial Staff also acts as the voice of our customers, contributing to our product and technical roadmap.

About the role

As a Sales Engineer in our Commercial Staff, you will help deliver an exceptional pre-sales experience and close strategic deals. Our product is highly technical, and deeply metrics-oriented: we strive to sell it by systematically demonstrating its value to our leads

You will collaborate directly with our first Adaptive Engine customers. You will help demonstrate the value of our product on their specific use cases, and be crucial in the success of the sales process to these early leads. You will answer their pre-sales needs, handling technical matters, and accelerating onboarding of new customers. You will also work closely with our Product and Technical team, reporting customer feedback and contributing to our product roadmap. We are looking for self-driven, intense individuals, valuing technical excellency, honesty, and clarity above all. As this is an early role, you can expect to be able to directly shape our commercial team as we grow.

Your responsibilities

  • Own our technical pre-sales process, assisting our Commercial team with technical matters and helping close strategic deals by delivering an exceptional pre-sales experience;
  • Demonstrate how Adaptive Engine can provide value to our customers, by preparing demos and proof-of-concepts;
  • Create and maintain technical content for our customers, answering common questions and requirements in the pre-sales process
  • Develop custom relationships, during the pre-sales and proof-of-concept phases;
  • Contribute to the roadmap for our products, by reporting on feedback and trends from our leads and customers, and help shape our Commercial Staff as Adaptive grows;
  • Report clearly on your work to a distributed collaborative team, with a bias for asynchronous written communication.

Your (ideal) background

  • At least 5-7  years experience of software engineering experience, preferably in a sales engineer role for an enterprise product;
  • A solid track record of delivering and scaling technical pre-sales;
  • Experience at fast-growing early-stage startups;
  • Software engineering and ML skills;
  • Passionate about the future of generative AI, and eager to build foundational technology to help machines deliver more singular experiences.
